Zirconia corundum is significantly harder and more durable than standard corundum. During grinding, zirconia crystals fracture in such a way that new sharp edges are constantly exposed—hence their long service life. Corundum hook-and-loop discs are more affordable and have proven themselves, but they are less durable. For intensive projects, zirconia usually pays for itself because you use fewer discs.

What is the purpose of the star-shaped center cutout?

The closed star-shaped cutout in the center allows for two mounting options: a hook-and-loop system using a compatible backing plate with hook-and-loop backing, or screw mounting through the center cutout.
